About me and my therapy practice

SPECIALISMS

Divorce Coaching

I'm a qualified solicitor who ran her own successful family law practice for many years. Now retired, my knowledge of how exes behave when relationships breakdown and my understanding of the legal system is invaluable. Although I do not offer legal advice, I understand how to support you when in the throes of acrimony over finances or arrangements for the children. You won't have to go through this scary experience alone.

I am qualified to work with the psychological impact of the breakdown of your relationship, I'll help you think straight, redraw boundaries and rebuild your confidence and sense of self.

Relationship Therapy

Struggling in relationship with your intimate partner?

Stuck in a cycle of connection, disconnection and reconnection?

Considering whether you should stay or separate?

Whether as a couple or individually, I am ideally placed to help you work out your future path and transform stuck thinking.

If you are looking to separate, I can help to mediate the split as painlessly as possible

Neuro-Affirming Therapy

I identify as a neurodivergent therapist. Many of my clients are autistic, ADHD or otherwise neurodivergent. I don’t see neurodivergency as a disorder, but a different operating system, with sensitives which can make day to day life a challenge.

Whether you are diagnosed, self-identifying, waiting for an assessment, or questioning if you are neurodivergent, I can work with you in an individualised, affirming and holistic way, helping you to navigate living in a world that does not always make sense or sends you out of your comfort zone.

We can explore sensory issues, difficulties connecting with others or burnout and experiment with different ways of coping, and practical new skills.

I can also support partners, parents and carers of autistic individuals.

Young People & Emerging Adults

I have an Advanced Certificate in Children & Young Person's Therapy and use my skills to work with young people 16 years+.

Practice description

My Credentials

Certified to Masters level in the field of mental health, I'm a qualified lawyer and an established, accredited psychotherapist. I have over three decades of training and experience, initially as a mental health and family solicitor, and since 2006, an individual and relationship therapist.

In addition to my university accredited qualifications, I have advanced training in providing therapy for couples and young people (16 years+) and working online as a therapist.

How I Work

I love to work online with clients, so if you are physically distant from my office, you can experience therapy with me from the convenience of your own home, maybe in your PJs, with a hot drink in hand. Or we can meet whilst you are at work or walking in the park, as long as you can find privacy. Research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy and has significant benefits.

I use evidence based therapies like humanistic person-centred therapy, attachment theory, neuroscience, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing and Mindfulness to formulate a therapy that's most beneficial to you.

I am affirming of, and have lived experience of the LGBTQ+ community, queer and same sex relationships.

Other Relevant Expertise

I was accredited by the Law Society in mental health law and child protection law, and recognised as an expert in these fields.

I worked in the High Court, forensic mental health settings and prisons, and have expertise and knowledge of complex situations beyond that of most other counsellors. I have worked with people with extreme and dangerous behaviours as a result of their traumas and psychological ill health. Nothing about the human condition surprises me and I am exceptionally non-judgmental and validating.

I'm committed to maintaining the highest levels of therapeutic service and regularly engage in learning outside of clients’ sessions, including training, research and gathering resources to support them.

My first session

I believe every individual is unique, so I offer a 60-minute "taster" session for new clients. This initial meeting gives us an opportunity to see if we're a good fit, for me to learn more about you, what has brought you to counselling and how I can help.

With young people, I may speak to the referring parent or caregiver initially to explore the issues before deciding how to proceed in session.

I get that talking about your unspoken worries can be daunting, especially if you have never had therapy before.

I will listen to your story, ask relevant and curious questions, explore with you how to make sense out of your life, your hopes and your goals and collaborate with you about what you'd like to change. I am not here to advise or influence your beliefs, choices, or decisions. I see my role as accompanying you to find your own solutions.

I'll help you dispel any shame or embarrassment and put you at ease. I'm warm, compassionate and wisdom and humour. We'll tease out the difficult stuff and you'll gain insights into your psychological process that you're unaware of, so you can stop repeating unhelpful patterns.

After the first session, if we choose to work together, there are no set number of sessions. I offer weekly counselling that lasts as long as you need it and I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, as you prefer. I am committed to working with clients to achieve their goals as quickly and sustainably as possible.

What I can help with

If my experience or our availability doesn't match, I know a wide network of other therapists and I can refer you on if you wish, so you don’t have to start your search from scratch.

About me and my therapy practice

I'm committed to maintaining the highest levels of therapeutic service to my clients and regularly engage in learning outside of clients sessions, including training, research and gathering resources to support you.

Practice description

My first session

I believe every individual is unique, so I offer a 60-minute "taster" session for new clients. This initial meeting gives us an opportunity to see if we're a good fit, for me to learn more about you, what has brought you to counselling and how I can help.

With young people, I will speak to the referring parent or caregiver initially to explore the issues before deciding how to proceed in session.
