About me and my therapy practice

Is life overwhelming and you need to talk to someone? Maybe you need help to develop coping strategies for your anxiety? Whatever challenges you are are facing, I can provide a confidential space to take a step back from, reflect on, and explore areas of difficulty in your life. I won't give you advise, however I won't just sit there and say nothing. Instead I will offer you a space to feel really heard, seen and accepted; offer reflections and ask you questions to enable you to explore your thoughts and feelings about what is concerning you. This gives you an opportunity to gain a new understanding of your troubles and consider what you can do to move forward. I can also provide you with techniques to use to help reduce and manage difficult emotions such as anxiety, panic attacks or anger.

Whilst some people feel they should be able to talk to family and friends about what is troubling them or even resolve it on their own, it's not always that simple and family and friends are sometimes part of the problem.

As a counsellor, I am impartial and trained to listen attentively and without judgement, which allows you to feel safe and supported to talk about whatever is on your mind. I will try and see things from your point of view, so that you may feel genuinely understood, but may also offer you different perspectives, and will help you notice patterns of behaviour and explore where they might have come from.

This can help you make better sense of situations whilst increasing self-esteem, self-awareness, confidence, and improving relationships.

Practice description

I am have a warm and kind style, with a focus on building a trusting, empathic and accepting relationship, so that you can feel at ease to fully explore what is troubling you.

I appreciate each individual is different in terms of them and their needs, and can tailor my approach accordingly. For some, it may be to have a safe, non judgmental space in which to be seen, heard and accepted. For others, they may want a more interactive, solution focused approach in tackling their problems. Either way, I will work collaboratively with you to support you in the best way for you, at a pace that you are comfortable with, and review with you regularly.

What type of sessions do you offer?

I offer face to face, telephone or online sessions (using Teams, What's App or Skype). Sessions last one hour.

How long will it take?

I offer short and long term therapy. How long the process takes varies from person to person, depending on what issue they are bringing. You are in control of the number and frequency of sessions and when you want to stop. It’s up to you how far you want to go on your journey of self-knowledge and what you want to get out of it. My role is to help you to get what you need from the process so that you can move on with your life as quickly as possible.

My premises

I am located in North Cornwall, in a semi rural location away from the main towns and residential areas of Cornwall, giving you an extra level of discretion and privacy, however there are no buses so you will need a car to access. There is off road parking.

My first session

From personal experience, I understand how opening-up to someone can feel daunting, so you’re very welcome to get in touch for a free, no obligation chat. This initial consultation can be either by phone or online and lasts up to 30 minutes. It gives us the opportunity to meet and talk through any questions that you may have, about what you are hoping to get out of counselling and for me to explain what I can offer in our sessions.

There is no commitment at this stage and you will then have time to decide whether counselling feels right for you and if you would like to continue.

If you decide to continue, we will use the first session to explore deeper what has brought you to therapy, and what you'd like to achieve during our sessions, so that we can be clear on the framework going forward. I will talk about confidentiality and about other practical issues also.
