About me and my therapy practice

Talking about things with me may help you process difficult feelings and give you the space to work out the why's, the wants, the needs and the how's. Maybe you are feeling sad, depressed, anxious, stressed and it feels too much - Strong feelings may be leaving you overwhelmed and you are unsure how to manage them. Maybe you need some support with a life change such as a bereavement or illness. Perhaps you feel at a crossroads in your life and need a space where you can get some clarity. We can explore these things together.

Counselling can help. No matter how big or little your problem seems.

I work integratively using various skills and models to support you. We can look at what you need and want from counselling and in particular what you need and want from me. How can I best support you? Everyone is different and I believe that having a choice and being open about your preferences can have an impact on the work you do in counselling and the effectiveness of counselling.

My focus is on creating and developing a trusting, warm and safe relationship where you can talk freely, without judgment. I have experience of working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, panic attacks, trauma, relationship/family issues, low self esteem, abuse, self harm, neurodivergence in adolescents and adults, and addiction and can support you with what you are going through.

Talking with me will enable you to understand yourself better. Through the counselling relationship, you can begin the process of accepting yourself and making the changes you want to make. This process is unique to each individual, there is no set time.

Practice description

I provide individual counselling to adults and young people (ages 12+) and alongside talking therapy can incorporate creative ways of working such as sand tray, drawing, doodling, mindfulness, visualisations and working with images. I also include body listening in my work which involves bringing the body into awareness - This might be noticing tension, pains, sensations and your breathing. It is another way to access your thoughts, feelings and emotions by by-passing the rational part of your brain (the cognitive thinking part). It can be particularly helpful for processing trauma from childhood when our sadness, fears, distrust, pain, anger and other emotions can be stored in the body.

Depending on what has brought you to counselling and what your goals are, we can work over a short (4 plus sessions) or long term period - This is something we would discuss together and review periodically.

Sessions are for 50 minutes and often on a weekly basis, although I also offer flexible sessions including fortnightly, 30 minute and ad-hoc sessions.

I work from a 2nd floor office space in Broadwater. For those driving, there is 2 hour limited parking nearby. Worthing Central train station is a 5 minute walk away and the bus stop which services several areas across West Sussex is a short 2-3 minute walk away, located on Broadwater Road.

Please be advised that access to my room is via 2 flights of stairs and there is no lift. However I will always do my best to consider clients of all abilities and so if the stairs are difficult for you, I can offer online therapy or I do have use of a ground floor room in Broadwater, if needed.

My first session

I charge £30 for an initial 50 minute session where we can use this time to go into a bit more detail about what has brought you to counselling and what your needs and expectations are. I will tell you about how I work and what I offer, as well as discuss confidentiality, availability and my obligations. During this initial session I will ask general questions regarding your personal and family history, relevant medical info and mental health history, work/education, presenting issues as well as explore any risk factors. This is so I can gauge an understanding of you, which can help determine whether I am the best counsellor to suit you and meet your needs. We will go through a counselling agreement together which is based on the things we discuss verbally in this first session.

You do not need to commit to further sessions during this appointment - I encourage you to have a think about it and whether I am the right fit for you.
