About me and my therapy practice

You may feel stuck, avoidant or even fearful with regard to wanting to bring about change or maybe do not know how or where to start and are seeking help.

I provide understanding, acceptance and confidentiality within my cosy counselling room in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Primarily working in a way that puts you, your feelings and your goals at the centre of things I also draw on much of my integrative training background to suit individual needs.

I will get to know you through your life story (current and/or past) that you are comfortable to share with me and you will know yourself better though this process too. Increased understanding, compassion and acceptance of your true self will bring about a more rounded you and minimise whatever issues brought you to counselling: All through talking. Where talking is not easy and words are not there, we can use other creative ways to gain such insight.

Just as poor relationships and loss of relationships can cause us harm, I believe that any positive connection with others is therapeutic. The special relationship between counsellor and client is even more so and is the cornerstone of successful counselling. I will encourage you to feel right about counselling with me before proceeding and we will regularly check that you are getting what you need from your sessions.

My working experience with a nationally known charity has been quite diverse covering such areas as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, bereavement (and other forms of loss), anger, historic abuse, self-esteem but I always consider the expert in the room, on one topic, as you. You are the expert on you.

Practice description

I primarily deliver counselling face to face from my dedicated counselling room in Bury St Edmunds with onsite parking and within easy access of the A14. It is 5 to 10 minutes' walk from the local train station. I am based on the ground floor with disabled access and facilities.

If you feel I may be the counsellor for you but prefer some other means of delivery I am open to discuss such.

My first session

Our first session will be about answering any questions you may have coming into counselling and about you testing the waters before continuing working with me. We will also work to reach a clear, mutual understanding of the goals you have for your therapy and the building of a warm trusting relationship, which will be the foundation of your therapy, will begin as a natural process.
