About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Emily, I am an Integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor.

I feel it is important to acknowledge that seeking therapy is not always easy, but if you are already reading this page, you have already taken your first steps.

Life throws challenges at us and sometimes the pain of historic and even nearer experiences just does not go away, navigating this alone can be difficult.

Perhaps you have a sense that something is not right, that you are not functioning to the fulness of your capacity, or that you are not able to enjoy life fully. We can seek support and advice from family and friends, but sometimes having someone that offers a neutral, accepting, and non-judgmental space is important, and allows you to explore what is happening, and how you really feel.

Through our child and adult experiences, we often ‘take on’ other people's views of ourselves, this means we have beliefs about ourselves that are not true to who we really are.

For example, I cannot cope with life because I am weak, or perhaps you notice your own behaviour changes when you are around people. We can take on maladaptive behaviours, that negatively impact our day to day lives.

Being able to explore the root of why we have not developed to our full potential and talk about our hurt and painful inner parts of ourselves can be the start of our own healing.
