About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am John, and I specialise in supporting people through anxiety and depression. Having experienced severe anxiety and depression myself I understand that you can feel stuck, and you are unable to move forward with your life or enjoy the things you are used to. I can help you to understand why you feel the way you do. How you feel is unique to you, so we will work in a way that fits your individual needs, helping you to find ways to move forward in a meaningful way.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have volunteered as a counsellor and gained valuable experience with Healthbox CIC. This experience allows me to support people who struggling with feelings of unhappiness and being unsettled, anxiety, depression, difficulties with self-esteem and confidence, and challenges in coping with major life changes such as grief, bereavement, redundancy, divorce, relationship issues, work-related issues and addiction.

Qualifications & recent professional development

I have a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I am a registered member of BACP.

I am a Senior Mental Health Lead and Director of Safeguarding and Wellbeing in a large Secondary School.

I am a trainer in Trauma Informed Practice, sexual abuse, sexual harassment and safeguarding.

I have 30 years of experience working with children and young people.

Practice description

I work online via Google Meet, on the phone or face-to-face in the comfort of your own home.

I will provide safe, non-judgmental, compassionate and empathetic counselling where you will feel supported and heard. My goal is to help you understand why you feel the way you do and help you find the tools and support you need to cope and move forward.

I work with an integrative model of counselling which is a holistic approach that draws on several different theories and techniques to create a personalised approach that is tailored to each client and their unique needs, goals and circumstances.

I believe that combining different therapeutic ways of working creates endless possibilities for you to grow. Together, we will explore three key approaches: Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Person-Centred Therapy.

Through psychodynamic therapy, we can look into how your past experiences shape your present thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. By gaining insights into your past you can unlock a deeper understanding of yourself and work towards resolving any conflicts.

We can challenge unwanted thoughts and feelings with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. You can become empowered to identify and challenge those negative thoughts and beliefs that are holding you back. Together, we will develop practical strategies to transform your negative thoughts and develop healthy ways of coping enabling you to overcome obstacles and find emotional well-being.

Person-centred therapy helps you to speak openly about anything you wish to. I am not here to judge you. I am here to help you feel heard and supported throughout our sessions.

My integrative approach means that your journey will be tailored to you. Whether you are dealing with past trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or anything that is causing you anxiety or depression. I am committed to guiding you towards positive change.

I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds.

My first session

I offer a free, no-obligation 30-minute initial chat to explain my ways of working and for you to ask any questions before you begin therapy with me. I offer this because it is important you feel comfortable speaking with me, as this is a personal journey for you and it is important that you and I are a good fit before we start your journey.

If you decide I am the right counsellor for you or your child, we can then book a full 50-minute session, and I will provide more information about our mutual counselling agreement.
